The story so far

Emeka came up through the rainy seasons, when the yard floods and a farm learns who actually watches the water. He mapped every low spot at Kisi in his head and most of them in the mud, and when the monitor lizard came up the drainage channel, it was his channel survey that told Security exactly where to bar it. He does not mention this. Sergeant Danladi mentions it for him.

As Minister he runs the troughs like a national accounts office: refilled on schedule, scrubbed on schedule, tested by a bird who does not trust schedules. His rainy-season drainage watch is the least glamorous office in the Republic and, on the nights it storms, the busiest. The Clean Water and Healthy Feathers Act is his to deliver, trough by trough, and he intends to.

    Grain and water

    Musa the Grainkeeper takes Feed and Agriculture; Emeka the Drain Marshal takes Water and Environment. Two Noiler infrastructure hands who already ran the store and the drains, now with the titles to match. Musa's first act: an inspection of the store, by smell.

  2. 17 August 2026

    The first plank

    A promise is only a promise until somebody picks up a plank, and this week somebody did. The first grain of the Better Housing fund became the first load of timber, and Emeka the Drain Marshal walked out to Coop Three with a length of string and marked a footprint wider than the old one. The new Coop Three would hold fewer birds in far more room. It is a strange, hopeful thing to build something good out of something this sad. The whole flock lined the fence to watch the string go down, and for the first time in weeks the mood lifted.
